While March 2020 was an unprecedented time in terms of political happenings and Covid-19, it was also the start of Austin’s wildflower season. The vibrant and diverse wildflowers in and around Ariel’s neighborhood brought color and joy to a dreary time, and these prints were created to prolong that feeling beyond spring.
To create each print, Ariel uses the reduction process. She carves away or “reduces” portions of a linoleum block, printing at intervals, one color at a time. Colors are printed from lightest to darkest. Ariel uses her home studio and printing press to create these prints.
