about the series

Excited to be reunited in Austin, Texas with her college printmaking partner-in-crime, Erica Laucella, Ariel and Erica decided to pull an all nighter in the print shop to create this series of work. The images in this series were inspired by a random, but familiar space: the laundry room. They observed and explored their personal experiences of this space by painting quick sketches of any and all things laundry room related.

Upon completion, the twenty prints were arranged in a grid to create order in an otherwise chaotic pile of imagery - in the most simple form, wash’d up.

Process

A variety of images were selected and refined, then exposed on multiple screens. Ariel and Erica mixed brightly colored inks and selected patterned, translucent, and reflective papers to later be incorporated into the works. The composition of each print was decided moments before printing, which required quick and smart decisions to be made.
