about the series

This in-progress series was inspired by Uncommon Objects, an eclectic and unexpected antique store located in Austin, TX. Ariel was drawn to the juxtaposition of the chaotic, old, and irrelevant objects simultaneously emulating an orderly, meaningful, and playful essence. Ariel's love of creating new meaning for objects through printmaking creates a curious composition for the viewer to unpack. The odd choice of unrelated objects somehow becomes compelling and beautiful.

Process

To make these prints, Ariel connected planks of pine wood with biscuit joints to create large wood blocks, and used various tools to carve each image. It required the hands of two people to ensure that the paper lay perfectly on the printing press before rolling it through to create a crisp, powerful image.
